Eligibility Criteria (PhD CS & M.Phil. CS)

Eligibility Criteria for Admission in Graduate Programs at Department of Computer Science, University of the Punjab

1- Eligibility Criteria for Admission in MPhil (CS):

To secure admission in MPhil (CS), at the Department of Computer Science, University of the Punjab, the eligibility criteria is as follows.

The candidate must have 16 years of education, and must have obtained one of the following degrees (or their equivalent, as decided by the Equivalence Cell of University of the Punjab) from an HEC recognized university:

• BS Computer Science
• BS Information Technology
• BS Software Engineering
• BS Data Science
• BS Artificial Intelligence
• BS Cyber Security
• MSc Computer Science
• MSc Information Technology

The applicant must pass an entrance test conducted by the Department of Computer Science, University of the Punjab. This test will be based on the following core areas of computer science:

Analysis of Algorithms, Computer Architecture, Computer Networks, Computer Programming, Data Structures, Database Systems, Operating Systems, Software Engineering, Theory of Automata.

To further remain in the admission process, the candidate is required to secure a minimum of 50% score in this test.

2- Eligibility Criteria for Admission in PhD (CS) (after 16 years of education):

To secure admission in PhD (CS), at the Department of Computer Science, University of the Punjab, the eligibility criteria is as follows.

The candidate must have 16 years of education, and must have obtained one of the following degrees (or their equivalent, as decided by the Equivalence Cell of University of the Punjab) from an HEC recognized university with a minimum of 3.0 / 4.0 CGPA:

• BS Computer Science
• BS Information Technology
• BS Software Engineering
• BS Data Science
• BS Artificial Intelligence
• BS Cyber Security
• MSc Computer Science
• MSc Information Technology

The applicant must pass an entrance test conducted by the Department of Computer Science, University of the Punjab. This test will be based on the following core areas of computer science:

3- Eligibility Criteria for Admission in PhD (CS) (after 18 years of education):

To secure admission in PhD (CS), at the Department of Computer Science, University of the Punjab, the eligibility criteria is as follows.

The applicant must have 18 years of education, and must have obtained one of the following MS / MPhil degree (or their equivalent, as decided by the Equivalence Cell of University of the Punjab) from an HEC recognized university with a minimum of 3.0 / 4.0 CGPA:

• Computer Science
• Data Science
• Information Security
• Information Technology
• Software Engineering

The applicant must pass an entrance test conducted by the Department of Computer Science, University of the Punjab. This test will be based on the following subjects from core areas of computer science:

Undergraduate Level Courses:

Analysis of Algorithms, Computer Architecture, Computer Networks, Computer Programming, Data Structures, Database Systems, Operating Systems, Software Engineering, Theory of Automata.

Graduate Level Courses: 

Advanced Theory of Computation, Advanced Analysis of Algorithms, Advanced Operating Systems, Advanced Computer Architecture.

To further remain in the admission process, the candidate is required to secure a minimum of 70% score in this test

Entry Test for the MS Data Science Fall 2021 Program

MS Data Science Fall 2021 admission MCQS based entry test will be comprised on the following subjects.

Eligibility Criteria for Admission in Graduate Programs at Department of Data Science, University of the Punjab

Eligibility Criteria For MS Data Science

A degree of M.Sc /BS (DS/CS) as per HEC curriculum. Students with sixteen years of education in following domains (Information Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Bio-informatics or Business and Information Technology (BBIT)) Degree or its equivalent in the relevant subject from a Higher Education Commission (HEC) recognized University (at least 16 years of education; 130 credit hours) are eligible to apply but they have to take following deficiency courses.

1.  Programming Fundamentals (Core Programming Course)
2. Data Structures & Algorithms OR Design & Analysis of Algorithms
3. Database Systems

Programme of Studies

• M.S DS Degree will be of four semesters. In 1st and 2nd semesters, 24 credit hours course work and in 3rd and 4 th semesters 6-credit hours thesis being offered.
• It will be mandatory for a Student have to earn 15 credit hours and pass Research Methodology course before registering thesis.

Duration of the Program

• The minimum duration for completion of MS degree is two years.
• The PU allows a maximum period of three years to complete MS degree requirements.

Required Documents for MS/M.Phil/PhD Admissions:

Students that have appeared in the merit lists of  M.Phil/PhD Admission Fall 2021 are required to submit the following documents (original) in Admission Office. The challan form for payment of fee will be issued after the submission of these documents:

1. Matric
2. Intermediate
3. BS/M.Sc
4. M.Phil in case of Admission in PhD
5. Undertaking Form (Take a Print out of this form on Rs 50/- Stamp paper, duly attested by Magistrate /  Grade-1 civil judge)
6. NOC for candidates of universities other than Punjab University. (Aspirant students are advised to start the process of taking NOC)
7. Equivalence Certificate for the students of universities other than Punjab University.
8. Copy of CNIC
9. Medical Certificate ( on letter head of Registered medical Physician)
10. 4 Pictures with blue background
11. Please bring your Signed Original Admission Form for Submission.

Note: Please submit copy of paid chalan form in Admission Office.
