Software Developer (Python, JS)
About the Role
GuruOps is a software development studio comprising a handful of digital products (check out Bolo.fm) and a stream of freelance development work. Our founder is a Software Engineer whose career has spanned Silicon Valley startups, consulting for global firms like McKinsey & Company, Royal Bank of Canada and the Toronto Star Corporation, and now, building and growing a suite of digital products and freelance practice.
We’re looking for a Software Developer to help with various studio projects. You’ll work on well-defined tickets, and receive technical feedback to grow as a developer. You’ll work across the stack (front-end, back-end, infrastructure), and will receive support for new areas. This is not a client-facing role. This position is open to English and Urdu speakers.
The CEO, who you’ll report to, is a sharp technical mind who has trained and mentored dozens of developers. This is an excellent opportunity for a junior or intermediate developer who’s passionate about growing their dev skills, likes variety in projects, and is hungry for mentorship.
You’ll be doing things like:
Writing code on detailed, pre-defined tickets (including acceptance criteria)
Submitting code, and participating in a code review process
Merging code into live production environments (many with active users)
Qualifications
We’re looking for someone who demonstrates:
Experience writing and shipping web-related code
Passion for coding: learning about software development, shipping code
Coachability, ability to receive feedback with a growth mindset
Excellent verbal and written communication skills -- an ability to explain complex technical topics succinctly
Diploma, bootcamp or comparable experience in web development, software engineering, or related fields
An ability to run Linux (either a Macbook, Linux machine, or a Windows computer that can run a Linux machine on top)
Bonus if you also have:
A portfolio of your work to show (a shipped product, GitHub repo, etc.)
Experience with ReactJS, Angular, Ionic framework, AWS, GCP
Experience with git-based development workflow
Level: Junior (1-3 years of work experience), Mid-Level (3-6 Years)
Working Hours: 9AM-5PM EST, with some flexibility
Full-time vs Part-time vs Project-based: Full-time
Starting Salary: 100-200K PKR Per Month, depending on experience
