PITB signed an MoU with the University of Punjab (PU), Lahore, to foster innovation, research, and technology-driven product development under the Chief Minister’s Initiative, MakerSpace Punjab.

The MoU was signed by 𝐏𝐈𝐓𝐁 𝐃𝐆 𝐞-𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐣𝐢𝐝 𝐋𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐟 and 𝐏𝐔 𝐋𝐚𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐞-𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐮𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐝 𝐀𝐥𝐢. 𝐏𝐈𝐓𝐁 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐀𝐡𝐦𝐚𝐝 𝐈𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐦 𝐒𝐲𝐚𝐧 and the Makerspace Punjab team were also present at the occasion.

Through this collaboration, PU students, researchers, and faculty will have opportunities to access specialized labs, technical mentorship, training, and prototyping facilities, along with joint innovation activities. The partnership aims to promote entrepreneurship, facilitate knowledge exchange, and encourage hands-on, industry-relevant learning.

Makerspace Punjab is a Government of Punjab initiative being implemented by PITB to support hardware innovation, rapid prototyping, and local product development.

TİKA-supported AI lab inaugurated at Punjab University

Facility aims to promote AI research while focusing on ethics, privacy and human impact

The Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence Laboratory has been inaugurated at the University of the Punjab, bringing together researchers and students to explore artificial intelligence alongside its social and human implications.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Türkiye’s Consul General in Lahore, Mehmet Eymen Şimşek, said the rapid development of artificial intelligence made it increasingly important to examine how emerging technologies affect people's lives.

The event was attended by University of the Punjab Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Ali, faculty members, researchers, students and other guests.

Focus on responsible AI

Şimşek said AI had significant potential in fields including education, healthcare, research and public services, but its rapid development also raised questions about what the technology was designed for, whom it served and how it affected society.

He said the laboratory would provide students and researchers with an opportunity to develop technical skills while examining the human consequences of the systems they create.

He stressed that issues including morality, privacy and responsibility should be considered from the beginning of the technology-development process and help shape how AI systems are designed and used.

TİKA supports laboratory

The laboratory has been established at the University of the Punjab with support from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA).

Şimşek said the facility should be viewed as more than a space equipped with technology, adding that its long-term value would depend on the research conducted there and the solutions developed to address real-world needs.

He said the project would provide a platform for learning, research and collaboration.

Pakistan-Türkiye academic partnership

The project has also brought the University of the Punjab and Türkiye’s Yıldız Technical University together in an academic partnership focused on artificial intelligence.

According to Şimşek, the collaboration could provide students and researchers with opportunities to exchange knowledge, undertake joint research and learn from different academic perspectives.

He described Türkiye and Pakistan as close friends and said cooperation between universities and young researchers was helping strengthen bilateral ties.

He said the new laboratory gave that relationship a forward-looking dimension by creating opportunities for both countries to work together on technologies expected to shape their societies.

Şimşek thanked the university leadership, faculty and others involved in establishing the facility and expressed hope that the partnership would produce further research and collaboration.

FCIT Promotes Industry-Ready Skills Through Odoo Professional Certification

Lahore, October 6, 2026: The Faculty of Computing and Information Technology University of the Punjab hosted the Odoo Technical Education Program Consultant Team at FCIT Old Campus, engaging students from BSCS, BSSE, BSIT, BSAI, and BS Data Science programs.
Mr. Abdullah Ansari, Odoo Technical Education Consultant, introduced students to the Odoo ERP ecosystem, covering its development framework, technical demo, workshops, hackathons, professional certifications, and career opportunities.
The session highlighted industry-recognized professional certifications alongside academic degrees, enabling students to gain practical, market-relevant skills and improve employability. The initiative supports the broader HEC emphasis on professional certifications and strengthens FCIT’s commitment to industry-ready graduates and industry-academia collaboration.

Historic Achievement for FCIT

Alhamdulillah FCIT won 1st position in the 1st ever national 1st National Submersible Autonomous Vehicle Design Competition 2026 at University of Lahore. We are proud of our team on beating teams from NUST and Institute of Space and Technology. The chief guests were from the Pakistan Navy, and the project was presented in front of him. He has appreciated the work.

QS World University Rankings 2026: PU secures notable position

The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 for Computer Science and Information Systems has been released, presenting a list of the world’s leading universities, with the University of the Punjab placed in the 351-400 band in this field.

According to the rankings, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has once again been ranked as the world’s number one university in computer science this year. American universities continue to dominate the list, with Stanford University and Carnegie Mellon University also holding prominent positions within the top 10.

Outside the United States, the National University of Singapore and the University of Oxford jointly secured fourth place for their performance in computer science.

Experts said that these rankings provide important guidance to students worldwide in selecting higher education institutions.

Chief Minister Punjab Laptop Scheme 2026 – Phase II

The Government of Punjab has launched the Chief Minister Punjab Laptop Scheme to equip meritorious students with essential digital tools for academic advancement.

 I am pleased to inform you that the Phase of the Chief Minister’s Laptops scheme has been launched on 31^st January 2026 – Registration is OPEN NOW. (Portal is LIVE).

The students enrolled in Undergraduate BS 4-Years (16 years – Mostly from session Fall 2025) at Public Universities / Colleges, Public Medical & Dental Colleges / Universities are encouraged to apply for this Laptops Program. In this connection we request you to kindly encourage your students to apply for the Laptop scheme at the given link.
