Position Summary:

Loads, configures. and tests new hardware for installation at customer sites. Occasionally install hardware to upgrade an existing customer’s system, if complex business operations require advanced knowledge/experience.

Job Responsibilities: Activities required to achieve position’s main duties as summarized above

  • Individual must be available to work between the hours of 11:00am -8:00 pm CST Monday through Friday of each week, with possible variations of work hours as necessary
  • Load, configure and test computer systems and peripherals. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Receive equipment from Purchasing Department and Warehouse; remove hardware items from shipping boxes; set the equipment up in the buildup area
  • Install additional components, as necessary, such as memory, boards, hard drive, tape backup system, etc.
  • Verify that hardware is working properly
  • Load (install) software and appropriate license onto system
  • Configure system in accordance with contract specifications
  • Receive and install manufacturer databases from Pricing department
  • Test completed system
  • Run further diagnostic tests with customer, or on-site installer/trainer by either directing action over the phone or entering into the system to determine the source of the hardware failure
  • Initiate repairs to the system and/or component
  • Summarize problems and resolutions into the customer service note system
  • Assist in testing and evaluating new hardware and software products
  • Continually strive to increase knowledge of software/hardware involved with the system; attend internal training classes, and act as an instructor for classes to customer support representatives on pre-assigned subjects

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to speak, read and write the English language fluently. Must be able to effectively communicate with customers, customer service representatives and field service providers both in person and over the telephone
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to follow logical steps to analyze and interpret customer technical problems and correctly resolve those problems in an efficient and courteous manner. This may include, but is not limited to, communications with the customer, customer support representatives and field service personnel, analysis of reports, and performing diagnostics of hardware and software on the customer’s system
